This is my *sniff* final update for the *sniff* Book & Movie Characters category – Donna will be taking over from me in a few minutes and I’m perfectly sure she’ll do a brilliant job of it. I’ve been working on this category non-stop for about three days to make sure everything in order, and it’s finally ready to hand over. :) Thanks to those of you who replied promptly to the troubles emails I’ve been sending out – your cooperation dramatically reduced the size of the troubles list below. :) Also, a final and HUGE thank you to Adia and Becca for their fantastic troubles checks. I couldn’t have completed the handover so speedily without your help. :) Everyone go visit them! I’ve really enjoyed working on this category for the past eight months but it’s time to step down now. *Sniffles*

NEW RULE: This category is for single characters only. Character groups will only be considered if the group cannot be broken down into single characters. Even then, this will be at our discretion. Examples: YES to Nazgul (LotR), Dementors (Harry Potter) and Stormtroopers (Star Wars). But, NO to Hobbits (LotR), Animagi (Harry Potter) and Jedi Knights (Star Wars). The rules for both characters categories – Book & Movie Characters and TV Characters – have been revised. These categories are now for single characters only. We will no longer accept fanlistings for any groups of characters, including Characters of, Men/Boys of and Women/Girls of. The characters categories are becoming huge and with these ‘extra’ fanlistings for every popular fandom, things have been getting out of control. This rule will affect all unprocessed applications received up until this date, but will not affect any fanlistings already on the current or upcoming lists.

NEW RULE: This category is for single characters only. If what you’re applying for involves two or more individual characters, it doesn’t belong here.

We are still discussing where things like bands, clubs, teams, etc. from TV, movie and books should go. I’m thinking TV, Movie & Book Stuff, but I can’t confirm anything yet.

This is a update of for the Characters: Book/Movie category.

I’ve spent the entirety of today sending out troubles emails after going through the two files sent to me by Adia a short while ago. I’m now up to the letter ‘M’, which is where Becca started. I’ll be spending tomorrow working on those troubles. Hopefully by the time I get around to posting the troubles list, a lot of the owners will have fixed the problems and let me know, so it won’t be too huge after all.

This is basically to confirm that yes I am working on the category, yes I am receiving your forms, and no you do not need to reapply if you don’t hear back as soon as you expect to. I will be going through all forms as soon as the troubles checks are done. I hope to hand this category over to the new staffer Donna within the next few days.

Also, I would like to just point out that all characters from Finding Nemo should be applied for under the Animation category. I’ve received five or six applications for its characters within the past couple of days, and I will not be forwarding these applications on to Animation – you will have to apply there yourselves.

This update includes all applications received before the server change (ie. anything from before May 15), plus the purging of most of the troubles list. I guarantee, however, that once June 1 has passed I will have news as to whether or not the fanlisting is available. This situation is out of my control and is being thoroughly looked into by the staff.

On a slightly lighter note, I would like to thank two very hardworking volunteers who went through the entire Book & Movie Characters current list checking for troubles. Thanks to the time and effort of the lovely Adia and Becca, I now have three hefty Excel files of troubles. I am exhausted! I started a big update a few days ago but I couldn’t pick up where I left off for a few days due to university work. Several of the fanlistings below will, therefore, be listed under Upcoming as well as Finished because they were completed within the first few days of them being approved (some of you are very speedy). I figured I’d leave them under both headings in this update to prove that the fanlistings were originally on upcoming, not just added as current. :) This is a 100% full update, meaning that I’ve now processed ALL applications and ALL finished, moved and closed forms (and removed some popular characters *ducks to hide from large amounts of applications*), followed up on ALL report forms, sent out reminders to ALL overdue fanlisting owners, dealt with ALL extension requests, queries and other misunderstandings and I now have a very empty and cleaned-out Book & Movie Characters inbox. This means that if you were expecting to hear from me about a book or movie character (not TV characters) you should have done by now.

I explained that Characters of [Actor/Actress] fanlistings are not valid, as this is covered by the actual fanlisting for the individual actor/actress. If you’ve been expecting a reply to any other questions/forms you’ve sent me and haven’t yet received an answer, please get in touch. I assure you that I have replied to all of your emails.

NEW RULE: This applies to both Book & Movie Characters AND TV Characters. I will no longer approve applications for a certain ‘version’ of a character, such as the demon, vampire, evil, psychic, good, bad, evil, enchanted, ghost or otherwise ‘alternate persona’ of a character. Yes, I’m aware that a LOT of these fanlistings already exist, especially within the Buffy fandom, and those fanlistings will not be affected. If at any time, however, one of these fanlistings is removed from the network, it will NOT re-open for application. I’m also aware that you can very easily be a fan of a certain person’s ‘alternate persona’ and want to create a fanlisting for it. It’s just impossible to know where to draw the line. I’ve been debating whether or not to implement this new rule for a while now, and I’ve finally come to the decision that it has to be done. It will go into effect immediately and will apply to all new applications waiting in my inbox. Sorry guys.

This is a update of for the Characters: Book/Movie, Characters: TV category.

From reading some of your feedback about the new Characters categories, I can tell that a lot of you weren’t aware that the Characters category was in fact one large category managed through a single database table. Although it was roughly divided into Book/Comic and TV/Movie on the frontend of things, on my end it was one big, messy category, which could only be managed by one staff member. The count was around 1,900 fanlistings. Now that comic characters have moved into Comics and the old Characters category has been split into two manageable categories for two individual staff members, there are around 900 fanlistings in each. I just thought I’d clear that up because a lot of you were wondering. :)

Ok… update time. Now that the categories are separated and tidied up, I can start approving applications from March 25 through to today. It was pointless to enter new records into the old, huge Characters category but with the new tidy tables things should go smoothly. Please bear in mind that I have 550 applications left to go through and 120 report forms. I’m also quite ill at the moment, so I won’t be able to do them all at once. I’ve made folders in my inbox of what applications to deal with at what time – at the moment I have a little folder full of applications from March 25 – March 31. There are 107 of those, so they should keep me busy for a while. At this stage they’re not sorted into TV and Book/Movie so I’ll probably be posting an update for both categories today. :) I’ll see how I get on with the March applications, and hopefully I’ll be able to get some April ones done too. :)
