TFL Developers Call!

Posted by Senior Staff @ 9:16 pm (link)

This is a update of an announcement for the General category.

We are looking at possibly bringing on one or more Developers to help our current Developer, Tess, so that she doesn’t always have to do all of the work on her own. Tess has been amazing, and while she is more than capable of handling it all herself, we would still like to have a team of Developers, as we did in the past. We have a range of projects in mind, both small and large, and need an enthusiastic group of people to help us out.

We are specifically looking for people with some experience in coding and script management. This can either be professionally or personally. The projects will involve working on your own, or in collaboration with Tess.

If you are interested, please email the senior staff at seniorstaff@thefanlistings.org, and we will send you more information, so you can decide if you’d like to apply to join the team.

Script: vs.hive

Posted by Senior Staff @ 9:42 am (link)

This is a update of announcement for the General category.

It has come to our attention an issue with the vs.hive script, used by some owners to run their fanlistings.

We have noticed that there are installations of this script that change the last update date to the current date if the fanlisting has gone over two months without being updated, making the fanlisting being permanently “updated”, when it’s, in fact, the opposite.

While we are not sure that every fanlisting using this script is benefiting from this, we have proof enough to know that a standard installation presents this issue, so for now we are asking owners who are using vs.hive to add a manual update date to their fanlistings, remembering to post it above the script one, as per current rules.

Temporary Layouts

Posted by Senior Staff @ 11:54 am (link)

This is a update of for the General category.

This is just a reminder that starting today, March 19th, the new rule about temporary layouts is active. While temporary layouts have been allowed for a while, from now on owners will get a three-month period to finish them.

Information regarding this has been added to the rules and faq page. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Senior Staff (seniorstaff@thefanlistings.org) or visit the board.

Temporary Layouts

Posted by Senior Staff @ 5:52 pm (link)

This is a update of temporary layouts for the General category.

We are currently working to implement a new rule regarding temporary layouts in the near future. In the meantime, we want to give some time to the owners of those fanlistings that still sport temporary layouts, so they can finish them up before the new rule becomes active.

You have until March 18th to submit an update form, using the comments box to let the staffer know that your layout is now finished.

March 18th is the last day to do this. After that date, any fanlistings with temporary layouts will be troubled. New fanlistings with temporary layouts will be allowed, but these fanlistings will be monitored as follows:

- After you submit your finished form for a fanlisting with a temporary layout, you will have 3 months to finish your layout and contact us about it, so we can unmark your fanlisting as having a temporary layout.

- If 3 months go by and your layout is still the temporary one, your fanlisting will be placed on Overdue status after which, as per the regular Overdue rules, you’ll have one week to finish it up and contact us.

These rules are not active yet and can be subject to final modifications, but the main idea is giving the owners a 3-month period to finish their layouts if necessary. Please notice, that this refers to layouts only, not an extension to finish your fanlisting. You need to submit a finished form with a fully functional fanlisting (minus the layout) for this rule to be applicable to you.

Use of donated layouts

Posted by Senior Staff @ 11:37 am (link)

This is a update of announcement for the General category.

We have decided to implement a new factor to be taken into consideration when approving fanlistings: making your own layouts. This will work as a complement to the “Your HTML example must be your own work”.

Staffers will also be taking a look to your other fanlistings (if applicable) to avoid situations in which your only own work is the example you submit, while donated layouts are being used for the rest of your sites. The same way how you take care of your fanlistings is taken into account, how much effort you put into building them will now also be an additional factor in the decision.

For any questions or comments, feel free to visit this post.

Reminder – Inactivity/Last Update Date

Posted by Senior Staff @ 2:42 am (link)

This is a reminder update of a policy change for the General category.

This is just a reminder of the following policy regarding Inactivity and multiple Last Update Dates that was implemented in June.

Please refrain from using more than ONE ‘Last Update’ date on your fanlistings. Category Staffers and Trouble Checkers are no longer required to check or scroll the rest of the page in search of another date, so we will only go by the first date listed on the page when we check to see if a fanlisting is still active.

Below is a copy of the original post:

We have made a change to our ‘Inactivity’ troubles emails. Before, the emails informed fanlisting owners that they needed to post the following message on their fanlisting if there were no pending members to be added to the fanlisting:

[Month] [Day], [Year]
No new members have joined recently!

Since multiple update dates on a fanlisting can be a hassle for trouble checkers, category staffers and visitors to read through, we have removed that part of the troubles email. From now on, please refrain from showing more than ONE update date on your fanlisting, as we will only go by the first date listed on the main page of the fanlisting and trouble checkers and category staffers will no longer be required to check or scroll the rest of the page to look for a second last update date.

If you maintain your fanlisting with a script, you may simply select a current member of the fanlisting (if you joined your fanlisting you can choose yourself) and ‘update’ their information. This will bring the last update date current.

If you maintain your fanlisting without any script, you can just update the last update date manually.

Please keep in mind that you may only do this if there are no pending members to be added and no update forms to be processed. If a member has requested to be removed from the fanlisting, deleting them may not automatically update your last update date if you use a script and you will need to follow the same step listed above.

‘Inactivity’ Troubles E-Mails

Trouble Checker Drive!

Posted by Senior Staff @ 6:22 pm (link)

This is a announcement update of a TFL trouble checker drive for the General category.

Hi all,

With the arrival of spring, we have decided that it is time for another TFL Trouble Checker drive! :) We are looking to bring on some additional Green Team members, so if you are interested in becoming a Trouble Checker here are TFL, please go to this page, read the details and fill out the form.

If you already sent in an application more than six months ago, or you need to update your old application, please e-mail Kristina at kristina@thefanlistings.org, and she will let you know if we still have your application on file or send you a copy of what we have in the database, so you can make changes (including adding categories, etc.) Please do contact us if you are uncertain if your information is up-to-date, or if your application was submitted more than six months ago, as Kristina recently pruned the list and deleted applications with outdated information. It’s very important that we have your current information on file, so that we can contact you as soon as you have been selected to join the team. (This goes for current TCers, as well!)

Brief Downtime

Posted by Adia @ 8:52 am (link)

This is a announcement update of site downtime for the General category.

Hi everyone! Just to let you know we will be taking the forms down for about half-an-hour tomorrow while our PHP gets upgraded. We have been informed the site may go down, or be slow, while this is going on, so are taking the forms down so nothing gets lost.

It’ll be about 8pm UTC/GMT tomorrow. It should only be for the half-hour, so we expect things to be up-and-running again quickly :)

E-mail Reminder & Changes to Personalities category

Posted by Adia @ 3:01 am (link)

This is a announcement update of various stuff! for the General category.

This is just a reminder about the ways to update your e-mail address that your fanlistings are listed under. It is important to know which e-mail address you are using (and, that your fanlistings are listed under one address to guarantee the utmost fairness in the applications process), to ensure any notices from us are going to an account that you check regularly.

To update your e-mail address we have a specific form to use. You do not need to contact each category you have a fanlisting under. This makes the entire process easier for you :)

If you currently have several e-mail accounts you can check which fanlistings you have listed on the e-mail address here, and then submit a change e-mail address :)

We are also making an announcement to clarify how certain personalities will be categorised at TFL. If a person belongs in the Personalities category then they will only be listed there, even if they are an Author or doing acting or make music. So, fanlistings can not be cross-listed in other categories. Nor should double approvals occur in categories other than Personalities.

We feel this will be easier for staffers, and anyone wanting to build a fanlisting for a personality, or look for any fanlistings currently existing. :)

Upcoming Troubles Hiatus

Posted by Adia @ 10:02 pm (link)

This is a announcement update of troubles hiatus for the General category.

As the holiday season is coming up and many fanlisting owners and staffers will be away on vacation, we have decided to hold another troubles hiatus. It will last from December 20, 2010 through January 3, 2011. The hiatus will apply to the troubles positions only – this means that from the 20th of December until the 3rd of January, no fanlistings will be placed on our troubles lists, which only includes the regular troubles process. Overdue fanlistings are not included, and may be troubled normally through the hiatus.

We hope that this troubles-only hiatus will make the lives of both fanlisting owners and staffers less stressful during this period. The troubles and overdue processes will return to normal after the 3rd of January; as a result, troubles staffers may have fanlisting checks done during the first week of January in preparation for this.

Community Behaviour & Off-Site Concerns

Posted by Adia @ 1:35 pm (link)

This is a announcement update of community behaviour for the General category.

A few months ago, we posted a reminder for people to be polite. We do feel it’s necessary to reiterate that point. TFL is a place to have fun. It is a place where we can come and share our love of fandom and common interests. We understand that people may split off into certain groups when they share several interests together. But, when speaking with others, treat everyone with the same respect you wish to be treated with.

If you have complaints or issues with other members of the community, please feel that you can come to the Senior Staff. However, unless the issues have occurred at TFL, we cannot do anything. We can only take the issue into our hands if it occurs on our domain. If an issue occurs on Twitter, Facebook, LiveJournal, or any other non-TFL site, we cannot do anything. We advise you to use your best judgment in this situation. If someone is being rude, or harassing you, block them. If the situation becomes more extreme – contact the appropriate person at that site to report them.

Our members are kind, good-hearted people who are polite. We do sometimes have people, though, who can make this environment a bit less fun. Again, if an issue occurs here, please don’t hesitate to come and talk to the Senior Staff. Please, always keep in mind that TFL is a welcoming, fun place to hang out. :)

Category Changes: Magazines/Newspapers

Posted by Adia @ 9:11 pm (link)

This is a an announcement update of category changes for the General, Literature, Magazines/Newspapers category.

This is an announcement about a small category change at the Network. We have just merged the Magazines/Newspapers category with the Literature category. As Magazines/Newspapers was quite small (23 fanlistings!), we thought it would fit better as a sub-category under Literature.

Owners have been notified of the change, and you can now find all the Magazines/Newspapers under the Literature category. :)

Contacting Staffers

Posted by Adia @ 2:22 am (link)

This is a announcement update of contacting staffers for the General category.

This is a reminder that it is not acceptable to contact a staffer with the network using anything but a TFL email address. Do not contact them via any of their private email addresses or messaging services about any TFL related concerns/questions/comments. This includes sending an email though the message board – those all go to our personal email addresses. No staffer is obligated to answer your email should you try and contact them though a non-TFL related email address/form.

We have several methods by which to contact staffers and we have those for a reason, so please follow those guidelines. :)

Continuous attempts to contact a staffer through private avenues may potentially result in an official warning on your message board account.

Announcement: HTML/Graphic Experience

Posted by Senior Staff @ 3:53 pm (link)

This is a update of for the General category.

Hi,

This is regarding a rule that the network has been lenient in enforcing up until now. We have the following rule regarding HTML/graphics experience:

1. You must have HTML and graphics experience.

* Provide an existing URL that displays your ability with both of these aspects when you apply. This URL must be your own work. You may use pre-made layouts or another persons work on the final fanlisting, but to apply you must present your own work.

As we said, we have been lenient in enforcing this rule. From now on, though, we will be actively making sure that each applicant is using their own work when applying for a subject. This is to make sure that each applicant is being considered on their own merits. This is what we believe to be fair for every applicant.
