TV Shows: Announcement/Rule Change
TV Shows Rule Change:
- Any applications received for a new TV series will not be processed until at least a week after the third episode (Pilot + 2 Episodes) has aired.
The purpose of this rule is to give the community a chance to watch a few episodes and apply at their leisure. By all means, you are welcome to send in an application for new TV shows immediately after the Pilot episode has aired. However, it is recommended that you wait to apply until you’ve seen at least a couple of episodes – especially since the Pilot episode is often different from the second episode (because of casting/plot changes and so forth). Note: This new rule applies only to new TV series’ – not seasons. All the existing rules regarding seasons still apply. Please check the category rules page for further information.
If you have any questions about this new rule, feel free to send me a contact form or an email at tvshows[@]thefanlistings.org and I’ll reply straight away. :)
Reminders:
- Before applying, please check here to see if the show/season you want to apply for is already listed in the network.
- Please do not apply for shows that have not yet aired.
- If you’re applying for a show aired in a “foreign” language [Korean drama, etc.] and if that show has an English title, please include it in your application as Subject: Give It All (Ganbatte Ikimasshoi), for example.

Overdue (Too Long on Upcoming) Fanlistings: New Policy
This is a announcement update of overdue fanlistings for the General category.
After careful consideration, we have decided to modify the rules regarding overdue fanlistings that have been on upcoming for over three months. We believe that the current one-month upcoming period is more than enough time for a fanlisting to be finished. While we do understand that there can be reasons that prevent an owner from finishing a fanlisting on time, we feel that there is a point when a fanlisting has been upcoming for too long. When this point is reached, we feel it is best if the fanlisting is either immediately finished or closed.
From now on, any fanlisting that has been upcoming for at least three months (the standard one month on upcoming, then two or more months overdue) will receive a pending removal notice instead of a standard troubles notice. This notice gives the fanlisting owner 24 hours to complete the fanlisting or to submit a closed form. If neither is done, the fanlisting will be removed from the network at the end of the 24-hour period.
Furthermore, any fanlisting that has been on upcoming for four months or more will not be eligible for an extension under any circumstances.
Please note: this rule does not apply to any fanlisting that is overdue by less than two months (i.e., that has been on upcoming for less than three months).

General Reminder
This is a update of for the General category.
This is a general reminder to all visitors that sometimes forms do not reach their intended recipients (the category staffer), through no fault of the staffer’s. If you believe that your form was not received (i.e., a category did a complete Finished form update but your Finished form was not processed), please submit a contact form to that staffer or post in the appropriate category forum.
Also, staffers are required to reply to all forms they receive. If you sent a contact form (not an application, finished/update/closed form, or a troubles report form) and do not receive a reply after 1-2 weeks, please resubmit your form.
Finally, please remember that there are often multiple staffers running a single category. They each have different jobs and do not have access to each other’s e-mail, so they may have no way of knowing that you sent a form/e-mail to a different staffer within that category.

TFL Store: Now Open!
This is a complete update of site news for the General category.
As you all know, we have had the idea of selling TFL-related merchandise in discussion for some time now. We’ve finally been able to get the store up and running. So head on over there and make a purchase if you find something you like!
All designs for the products were submitted by TFL community members – we really appreciate their help! More designs are always wanted and needed, so please feel free to contact us if you have an idea! :)
Remember, any profit that we make from each purchase will go directly towards TFL’s upkeep and server costs, so your purchases are helping keep TFL up and running! If you are interested in donating directly or want to know more about our ever-rising costs, please check out our support page.

Controverisal Topics at TFL
This is a update of for the General category.
TFL has decided to monitor more closely subjects that may be of a ‘controversial’ nature. Subjects such as ‘Adolf Hitler’ and ‘Nazi Germany’ in History/Royalty and ‘Mein Kampf’ in Books are approvable topics; however, we feel that these should be carefully watched by staffers and trouble checkers.
From now on:
- Controversial fanlistings in the History/Royalty section will be labeled with ‘study of’ next to their name. e.g., ‘Hitler, Adolf’ will be renamed ‘Hitler, Adolf (Study of)’.
- Applications staffers will send a set of guidelines to owners who apply for subjects of a controversial nature outlining that fanlistings must be worded that they are only for the subject in a historical/academic sense, and not for the person etc themselves.
- Troubles staffers and trouble checkers will review these fanlistings to make sure they are not breaking these guidelines.
We feel that these are small steps that TFL can take that will allow us to calm some of the concerns of our visitors but still allow TFL to approve fanlistings for more controversial topics.

Reminder: Using Domain E-mails
This is a update of for the General category.
We have noticed that many people have their fanlistings listed at TFL under domain e-mails rather than free services (e.g., gmail.com, hotmail.com, etc) or your ISP-given e-mail address. While this is perfectly fine with us, it can cause problems if your domain goes down, meaning that e-mails from TFL can go missing and create huge problems if you are placed on troubles.
If you want to update your e-mail to a non-domain account, please feel free to send in a Change of E-mail form: http://www.thefanlistings.org/changeemail.php or if you want to see which fanlistings are listed under which address, use our Your FLs List: http://www.thefanlistings.org/yourfls.php.
It’s your choice which e-mail you have it under, but we feel that having it under a free e-mail service (or your ISP-given e-mail address) could prevent you a lot of hassle in the event your domain unexpectedly goes down. Please also keep in mind that some free e-mail services may label e-mail from TFL as spam or junk, so regularly check your spam/junk boxes if you use free services.

Songs: Bands/Groups Split
This is a announcement update of a category split for the General, Songs: Bands/Groups category.
Songs: Bands/Groups has always been a large and popular category and due to the backlogs that such a large category can sometimes acquire, we have split the category into two smaller categories, divided by the alphabet.
The two new categories are Songs: Bands/Groups 0-M which lists songs performed by bands or groups that have names beginning with numbers or the letters A-M and Songs: Bands/Groups N-Z which lists songs performed by bands or groups that have names beginning with the letters N-Z.
Because the category is now split alphabetically, please make sure that you look under the appropriate category when checking whether or not a song has been approved. So, if you are looking for songs by “The Cure”, they will be listed within the Songs: Bands/Groups 0-M category under “Cure, The”. Alternatively, if you are looking for songs by “A Perfect Circle”, they will be listed within the Songs: Bands/Groups N-Z category under “Perfect Circle, A”.
We hope you are happy with this change. If you have any questions or concerns about the split, please feel free to post in the relevant category forums. Thank you. :)

Troubles Hiatus
This is a announcement update of troubles hiatus for the General category.
Recently the category staff have been discussing a possible TFL hiatus over the holiday/New Year period. After realising that this could cause a huge backlog once forms re-opened, we have decided to have a troubles-only hiatus. This means that from the 19th of December until the 7th of January, no fanlistings will be placed on our troubles lists – this includes both the regular troubles process and overdue fanlistings.
Please be aware that fanlistings placed on the troubles list before the 19th of December may be removed from the Network if the owner does not respond to the troubles e-mail/fix the problem.
We feel that this will make your lives a little less stressful over this period – and also less stressful for our staffers! The troubles process will go back to normal after the 7th of January, and staffers may be doing fanlisting checks during the first week of January in preparation for this.

Server Status: Up and Running
This is a announcement update of server move for the General category.
The server move has finally completed. All errors and bugs should be fixed. :) If you notice any problems or error messages on the site, please contact the senior staff. Please note that the site and board may not be accessible for some visitors because the domain is still propagating, but this should be cleared up within a few days.
Also, please keep in mind that the site does occasionally go down several times a day for back-ups and system maintenance. We’re not yet sure of the times that this will occur on the new server, but once we are certain when they are timed, we will let you know.
Thank you for your support and for your patience! :)
Server Move: Status
This is a announcement update of server move for the General category.
Went a bit longer than we thought it would, but everything has been moved over. There are a few errors which we need to fix up, but we are working on that now. We hope to have everything up and running soon :)
TFL Moving Servers
This is a announcement update of server move for the General category.
TFL is in the process of moving servers. We hope that this will not take too long and will let you know as soon as possible.

Splitting Book/Movie Categories
This is a announcement update of category poll for the General category.
TFL.org has been discussing the idea of splitting the Book/Movie Characters and Book/Movie Relationships category for some time (so there would be a Characters: Book category, a Characters: Movie category, a Relationships: Book category, and a Relationships: Movie category).
There are pros and cons for this decision, which we have outlined below. However, because this is such a big decision, we wanted input from you, our visitors, on whether to split the categories or keep them together.
To vote in the poll, you need to be a member of the message board — this is to prevent multiple votes. If you’d like to vote on the issue or to read more information, please see this thread.
Please note that while we encourage you to join the board if you are not yet a member and would like to vote, we strongly discourage any board members from creating extra accounts to vote multiple times. Should this occur, all of the perpertrator’s extra accounts will be deleted, their current board account will be suspended, and all their votes will be discarded.

Toys/Collectibles: Subcategory Changes
This is a announcement update of subcategory changes for the General, Toys/Collectibles category.
This post is to notify you that there have been some minor changes to Toys/Collectibles subcategories. In order to make the category easier to navigate, the category now contains the following subcategories.
Action Figures
Building/Models
Collectibles: Brand
Collectibles: General
Dolls: Brand
Dolls: General
Merchandise Lines
Stuffed Toys: Brand
Stuffed Toys: General
Toys: Brand
Toys: General
Virtual Pets
Also, please note that fanlistings for brands that fall under companies like Barunson, Diddl, Morning Glory, Sanrio, San-X, and so on are now listed under the Merchandise Lines subcategory. This is because the products made under these brands are not primarily toys (although they do include toy manufacture). Still, please do NOT apply for any of these subjects under Toys: Brand, Stuffed Toys: Brand, or Collectibles: Brand as the Merchandise Lines fanlistings are considered to cover all products produced under the company/brand. However, if you would like to apply for a specific toy made under these brands, then you are able to apply under the appropriate Toys subcategory.
If you have any questions about these changes, please feel free to contact me. Thanks.

phpFanbase Security Flaw
This is a announcement update of fanlisting script flaw for the General category.
As you may be aware, a serious security flaw has been found in several of Codegrrl’s scripts, including phpFanbase. If you are using this script or another script from Codegrrl, please visit Codegrrl and update your script ASAP.
Codegrrl has an update of certain files in the script that will repair the security flaw. If you use FanAdmin, please also visit the Codegrrl thread as there is information there regarding FanAdmin.
If you are running phpFanbase and have concerns about being able to update, then alternatives are to update manually for now until the new version of phpFanbase comes out, or to switch to another script such as Enthusiast which has an upgrade-from-phpFanbase component.
As far as TFL.org is aware, the only issue with phpFanbase is that the protection.php file that needs to be updated. Because of this, TFL is not giving extensions for fanlistings running on phpFabase since the issue is easily resolved and you don’t need to wait for phpFanbase to get back online. However, if your site has been hacked or your account has been shut down, please get in touch with the staff as soon as possible so they know.
If you have any questions, please visit the Codegrrl Forums regarding this issue.

TFL Donations
This is a update of for the General category.
TFL is creating a list of names of people who have donated to the network over the years. As our list of names are people’s real names (rather than their board name/internet alias), we need some help!
If you have made a donation to the Network, please e-mail the senior staff (seniorstaff@thefanlistings.org) with your real name (the name your Paypal account would be under) and a URL so we can add it to our donators list.

Use of Aliases/Fake Identities
This is a announcement update of network rule for the General category.
For some time now, TFL has had concerns about applicants using ‘alias’ identities, submitting false information, and using other people’s URLs to apply for fanlistings. We feel that they do this because of fears of ‘staff bias’ towards them, or they have a large number of fanlistings (or fanlistings on troubles or upcoming) and this will enable them to get more fanlistings.
We are aware of several cases and have followed these up with the owners. However, we feel our concerns on this need to be made known to you.
If an owner is found to be using multiple aliases or another person’s information on their applications, their alias identity’s fanlistings may be unlisted from TFL. Repeated use may result in a temporary or permanent ban from TFL.
In order to avoid this situation, please stick to one name and e-mail address and only submit your own URL when applying for fanlistings at TFL. If you need to update your e-mail addresses, please send in an E-mail Change request form, and we will update those addresses as soon as possible.
We feel that submitting false information is unfair to other visitors and applicants and it is something that needs to be taken seriously (especially the use of another person’s URL or name). In all circumstances where this happens, action will be taken.

Category Name Change
This is a announcement update of a category name change for the Fashion/Beauty, General category.
We have decided to change the Fashion/Cosmetics category name to Fashion/Beauty as we felt that it reflected the content of the category more accurately. All previous fanlistings from the Fashion/Cosmetics category continue to be listed in the new Fashion/Beauty category and all subcategories are the same.
We hope you are happy with this change but if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to leave a message in the Fashion/Beauty forum for one of the category staffers to answer. Thanks! :)

New TFL Menu
This is a announcement update of the TFL menu for the General category.
As you might have already noticed, TFL now has a new menu. Over the past months, we’ve received several comments about the old menu being a little bit confusing, as well as comments about it not working properly in all browsers. We hope this new menu is much more straightforward and makes it easier to browse the site. To browse using the new menu, simply click on one of the main menu options (ie. Start a Fanlisting?) and a submenu will drop down below it.
We hope you all like the new menu, and please feel free to contact us if you have any comments, questions or suggestions.
